In PG county alone, 22% of adults struggle with low literacy. With the improvement of literacy comes better jobs, higher self esteem, less involvement in criminal activities, and independence from public assistance programs. Education Works is a program that we put in place to help adults gain the reading and writing skills needed to effectively think, communicate, and create a better life for themselves and their families.

Our Process

We administer the Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASAS) test during the registration period.  This will determine the level at which the student is taught.

GED Instruction

We begin instruction of GED-level content for those who score 236 and above on the CASAS assessment. The content areas include Reading-Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. In order to pass the GED exam, you must score at least 145 points in each of the four academic areas. Passing students will receive a Maryland State High School diploma.
